Bee Hive In The House?
The first job is to locate the hive. The problem here is that the entrance the bees use may be far from where the hive is located either in a wall or in the attic. You must locate the hive itself to apply insecticide, otherwise the queen will survive and the hive will recover from any applied insecticides you use.
TIPS:
1. To locate the hive you can listen to where the sound of activity is coming from
2. You can tap a wall to try and try to locate the sound of the buzz.
3. Apply insecticide in the late afternoon. The bees have all returned from a hard days work
4. February or March is considered the best time to apply insecticide because the hive population is lowest
Once the hive is neutralized, you should open the wall and remove the hide, it will decompose. Clean the area it thoroughly and close the hole used to get to the hive and remove it.
Home Remedies for Bee Stings:
I would have this handy before you begin removing or approaching the hive.
1. Rove the stinger using cellophane tape - do not pinch it out, you will release more toxins
2. Soak the bite site in Epsom salt and water.
3. Try an ice bath on the bite
4. Hydrocortisone cream or calamine lotion applied to the skin may relieve itching
Taking out the hive takes a certain amount of courage and you should never try this if you have allergies. By far the safest way to deal with this
problem is to have a professional do it for you.
Choosing a Pest Control Company
Commercial
How can you be sure that the pest control company you hire will do a good job? Before you choose a company, get answers to these questions:
Is the company licensed?
1. Most state or local agencies issue state pest control licenses. Make sure the pest control operator’s license is current if one is required in your state.
2. Also, ask if the company’s employees are bonded, meaning that the company reimburses you for any loss or damage caused by the employee. You may want to contact your state pesticide agency to find out about its pesticide certification and training programs and to ask whether periodic recertification is required for pest control operators.
3. Possession of a city license where they are issued is one more assurance that the company you are dealing with is reputable and responsible.
Ecologically Best
Many people understand the role of bees in our world and will remove them and give them a new home rather than kill off the hive.
1. You can try to find a local beekeeper that will remove the hive in a non toxic manner
2. There are local non profits that specialize in removing hives for a fee in a harmless and non toxic manner. Often, they will also try to save the lives of the hive so that they can continue to be productive members of or environment. Our experience with this is that they are
more expensive to use, but these are the kindest methods.
